REVIEW

Being advertised with no binder, this nicely constructed, box press cigar comes to us as a choice in the October 2023 My Monthly Cigars Box. Hard pressed, this rectangular profile is covered in a matte, hairy, and minimally veined leaf. The pre-ignition aroma is of a potent and aromatic “box of raisins”. A straight cut on the well-placed cap offers up an unrestricted draw and cold notes of cocoa and dried figs.

A toast/light and into some rather mild introductory notes of wood and pecans are on stage. Reaching the inch marker and noted is the absolutely mild retrohale. The notes are consistent but are now joined by a floral note that drops during the finish.

Nearing the end of the 1/3, the floral tappers off and trade places with creamy cocoa. Into the 2/3 and a flawless and straight burn line is in process as a bright white ash grows on a thin ash fringe. Some of the floral notes come and go as we continue with some consistency in the profile. The retro is still the mildest I can remember and moves us into a salty finish where a mild baker's spice starts to build.

 

Moving in the final 3/3 we start to move into the medium strength marker. The baker's spices start to develop as notes of both cloves and licorice join in on this very flavorful cigar. The finish is the focal point and promotes some oily, salty, and peppery value that feels warm on the mouth.

The nub sees a medium experience as the heated licorice is full on the pallet and we conclude a cigar that is complex and develops throughout its slow and textbook burn journey. A cigar that should not be judged by it lackluster band and is recommended for the mild/medium smoker who prefers potency on the pallet.
